Dr. XYZ is an exercise in queering the healthcare information film by brum-based trans film collective, xyz projects. Shot on 16mm, it impersonates NHS training films from the 1960s-70s with a drag-satire twist. After collating an archive of healthcare experiences recorded with Birmingham's trans+ community, Dr. XYZ explores the critical state of trans healthcare in the UK through ‘medical drag’ re-enactments.
It was commissioned by the BFI x AHRC’s ‘NHS Untold Stories’ initiative and is currently circulating in NHS staff training networks.
